ALWAYS VERIFY AIRPORT INFORMATION THROUGH OFFICIAL SOURCES. DO NOT DEPEND ON THIS PAGE FOR FLIGHT PLANNING! Quick Stats*
Charles W. Baker airport is an active general aviation airport located approximately 5 NM southwest of Millington Municipal (NQA). Consequently, pilots need to be familiar with the boundaries of Millington's Class D airspace. Actually, it is not possible to fly the pattern at 2M8 without entering NQA's airspace. This has always been the case and you won't get into trouble as long as you don't go any deeper into the Class D than needed to fly the pattern and get to and from Baker. If you really need to transit Millington's airspace (say you're headed north or northeast and you don't want to detour around it) then the accepted local procedure is to call Millington Tower on 120.25 as soon as practicable after lifting off from Baker. Runway 18U-36U is located west of the main runway and is restricted to ultralight use. Ultralight activity is infrequent but pilots of conventional aircraft should be alert for their presence at low altitudes near the field. Baker is located adjacent to the Memphis Motor Sports Park. On race weekends the ramp is sometimes nearly full with airplanes belonging to race fans and racing crews. Baker is also home to several aviation-related businesses, including Shelby Aviation (charter, aircraft rental, and flight instruction) and a piston to turbine conversation shop for crop dusters. The FBO is currently run by the Memphis/Shelby County Airport Authority. The photo below of the main runway was taken from just south of the field, looking North. The ultralight runway is not visible in this image (it is out of sight just to the left). Click on the photo for an image with labels.
